I watched as Crimea fell to a confusion of masked “green men” and Pro Russian thugs… Ukraine chose not to react. Not that I can blame them, the country is in no condition, from top to bottom, to fight a war. Let alone a war with Russia, second in many aspects only to the United States in military might.
Now I watch as we see the same scene occurring in Eastern Ukraine, and I look around at the worlds response. I think that if we aren’t careful we run the risk of repeating history. We can’t forget Hitler’s actions prior to his invasion of Poland in September of 1939. Hitler could have been squashed before he took over Europe if we wouldn’t have acted so softly from the beginning. I look at the US and Europe and I see countries who would rather hold on to peace as long a possible and hope for the best. Putin’s Russia is taking this and using it to gain momentum, and he needs to be confronted. This is unacceptable, and the longer we wait the more we will pay in blood in order to stop him when we have been pushed too far.
I’ve served in combat against my nations enemies in the war on terror, and it truly is the scariest and most awful thing you could wish on anyone. However I do believe that a nation is obligated to defends itself, against all enemies foreign and domestic. I would encourage every Ukrainian that loves their “motherland” to make Russia’s stay in their country miserable. If Russians invaded the US, the only good Russian would be a dead Russian. I don’t hate Russia, I don’t hate Russians, it wouldn’t be personal, I would just want them to leave my country.
